South Africa’s second national operator Neotel has launched its first commercial WiMAX wireless broadband services. The firm has completed trials with seven WiMAX base stations around Gauteng and is now deploying a further 100 base stations in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban, local newspaper The Sowetan reports. Neotel recently called for additional spectrum to be made available for WiMAX services so that it can upgrade from a fixed access service to a full mobile service.
