MTC expects to award WiMAX licences in October and mobile spectrum by December

14 Jul 2008

The Peruvian state agency for promoting private investment, ProInversion, has confirmed it will award WiMAX licences on 24 October, writes BNamericas. The concessions comprise frequencies in the 2668MHz-2692MHz band in the provinces of Lima, Callao and Trujillo and the 2668MHz -269MHz range for the rest of the country. Meanwhile, the country’s Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) is hoping to entice a fourth wireless network operator to the market with a tender for spectrum in the 1900MHz band, due to be held before the end of the year. A newcomer would compete with the current triumvirate of Movistar, Claro and Nextel.
