MTC awards fixed telephony licence to Claro

3 Jul 2008

Peru’s Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) has awarded a national 20-year fixed telephony concession to wireless network operator Claro Peru, writes BNamericas. According to the terms of the licence, Claro must sign the licence documents within 60 days or forfeit the concession. Claro has yet to publicly reveal its plan for the sector, although it is speculated in the local press that it will use fixed wireless access technologies to compete in areas where incumbent operator Telefonica del Peru does not have a presence.
