True expects internet gateway revenues to more than double

23 Jun 2008

True Internet Gateway, part of True Corp, expects its revenues to increase from THB400 million (USD12 million) to THB1 billion this year, fuelled by strong broadband internet demand. General manager Dr Anothai Ratanakul said that True had witnessed a sharp increase in IP traffic from 2.56Gbps in 2007 to 5.1Gbps currently, and to cope with the growing demand, he said the telco spent THB10 million to expand the gateway to Europe, starting in Britain. This enables True to pass traffic directly from Bangkok to Europe without using state-run CAT Telecom’s gateways. The number of True’s wholesale ISP customers would increase to 15 by 2009, from ten now, Dr Anothai said, adding that total traffic for international internet bandwidth in Thailand was expected to rise to 20Gbps this year, up from 9Gbps in 2007.
