DoCoMo confirms USD350m purchase of AKTEL shares

Japanese cellco NTT DoCoMo confirmed yesterday that it had agreed to acquire a 30% stake in Bangladeshi GSM mobile network operator Telecom Malaysia International (Bangladesh) Limited (AKTEL), by buying A K Khan & Co’s entire stake. The price tag is approximately USD350 million, lower than earlier reports of USD425 million. The deal is expected to be completed by the end of 2008, and the Japanese firm will participate in the management of AKTEL, which is 70%-owned by Telekom Malaysia.
