Telmex Peru launches triple play offering

5 Jun 2008

Telmex Peru has launched a triple play offering comprising a voice service called Telmex Voz, a broadband connection up to 500kbps dubbed Telmex Infinitum, and a cable TV offering labelled Telmex TV. Initially the package will be available in four districts of Lima for a total cost of PEN199 (USD70) per month. Escobedo said the company expects to reach 85,000 subscribers this year, including both triple play clients and subscribers for the individual services. ‘This is an important step in Telmex’s expansion strategy, it is our entrance to the residential market, which complements very well our service offering in the corporate and small and medium company market,’ stated Telmex Peru CEO Mauricio Escobedo. Escobedo added that the launch is part of a USD200mn investment in network coverage, of which USD110mn has already been spent and the remainder will be invested this year. Local fixed line operator Telefonica del Peru launched triple-play last August. Some observers claim the bundled offerings from the two operators are not ‘true’ triple play as they are simply a combined package using different delivery platforms, rather than using converged technology.
