Following its commercial 3G launch in St Petersburg, reported yesterday in CommsUpdate, Russia’s leading cellco by subscribers Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) says it is ‘technically ready’ to launch 3G services in Sochi, Kazan and Yekaterinburg. The W-CDMA network will be extended to more than ten cities this year and to 40 cities by the end of 2009, a company statement read. MTS is planning to invest USD1.6 billion over the next three years in UMTS development, and forecasts that it will have eleven million 3G subscribers by 2011. The advanced services should earn USD2.5 billion in revenues between 2008 and 2011, according to the company’s estimates.
