AIS admits only 100 people using 3G

20 May 2008

Advanced Info Service (AIS) says limited bandwidth means that it has only activated 100 subscriptions to its W-CDMA/HSDPA service launched earlier this month in Chiang Mai, reports the Bangkok Post. The market-leading GSM operator admitted that it cannot launch a full-scale marketing campaign for the ‘3GSM Advance’ service, as heavy data downloading by just a few thousand 3G users would be beyond the capabilities of the 900MHz UMTS network, which spans 35 base stations.
