Sonaecom narrows 1Q losses

6 May 2008

Portuguese alternative telco Sonaecom has narrowed its net loss in the first quarter, from EUR6.0 million (USD7.9 million) in Q1 2007 to EUR5.5 million this year. Turnover was up 20% year-on-year at EUR237.7 million, with the results boosted by takeovers of smaller players last year. Sonaecom says it expects to complete the integration of Oni by the end of June and of Tele2 Portugal by early in the third quarter. The number of fixed access lines in service fell 5% in the three months to the end of March to reach 775,163, while the number of subscribers at mobile subsidiary Optimus rose 8.2% y-o-y to 2.29 million.
