Mozambique’s Transport and Communications Minister has said there are no plans to privatise the country’s dominant wireline and wireless operator, Telecomunicacoes de Mocambique (TDM). Paulo Zucula told workers at the firm that TDM is central to the country’s economy and it is a symbol of Mozambican sovereignty. The issue of privatisation was first raised in 2002 but Zucula says a sale will not occur, at least while he is still Minister, reports Agencia de Informacao de Mocambique in Maputo.
