KeyTech plans new cable

17 Apr 2008

KeyTech, owner of Bermuda Telephone Company (BTC), has announced that work on Bermuda’s third international submarine cable connection – dubbed Challenge – has begun. A ship has begun surveying the sea floor between Bermuda and the US to assess the best route; once the surveying is complete, the rollout will begin. Once complete, expected in March 2009, the Challenge cable will stretch from the island’s Devonshire Bay to the US eastern seaboard. KeyTech hopes the new link will allow it to provide more competitive pricing for international services, while also expanding customer choice.
