Consumer Council up in arms over Vodafone/Inkk; watchdog says it’s fine

15 Apr 2008

The Consumer Council of Fiji has repeated its stance that mobile reseller Inkk is merely an extension of Vodafone’s services, reports Fiji Broadcasting Corporation. Consumer Council CEO Premila Kumar claims Inkk was created as a separate company to mislead ordinary consumers, and alleges that Vodafone is assisting Inkk in diluting the market in order to undermine new rival Digicel. Communications Minister Tom Ricketts has hit back saying that Inkk and Vodafone are two separate companies and not ‘hand-in-glove’ competitors. Ricketts went on to cite similar mobile reseller business models used in other countries. Vodafone meanwhile maintains that Inkk is a separate legal entity which only utilises its network services, facilities and staff.
