Triple-play cableco Shaw Communications’ net profits in its second fiscal quarter ended 29 February more than tripled to CAD298.8 million (USD292.3 million), up from CAD79.8 million a year earlier, on revenues that climbed 11% year-on-year to CAD763.2 million. Shaw added 56,500 cable telephony subscribers in the three months to take its total to 492,200, as it tempted fixed line users away from regional PSTN incumbents Telus and Manitoba Telecom Services, whilst high speed internet subscriptions rose by 31,500 to 1.518 million. Shaw, which serves a cable TV user base of 2.24 million, says its CAPEX for its current fiscal year will exceed CAD700 million.
