Uganda Telecom to extend fibre network to Rwandan border

8 Apr 2008

IDG News Service reports that Uganda Telecom has started work on a fibre-optic link connecting the west Ugandan town of Mbarara to the Rwanda border crossing point at Katuna. The link will form part of the East African Backhaul System (EABS), a terrestrial cable link which will link Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya to the East African Submarine Cable System (Eassy), currently being built along the eastern Africa seaboard, from Port Sudan (Sudan) to Durban (South Africa). The new section of cable is expected to be completed by November.
