Bolivian cellco Telecel, which operates under parent Millicom International Cellular’s Tigo brand, expects to expand its WiMAX network to the cities of La Paz, Cochabamba, Sucre and Tarija this month, writes BNamericas citing local paper La Razon. Tigo official Camila Roca told BNamericas that the infrastructure – supplied by Alvarion – has already been deployed, with commercial launch planned for later this month. Tigo ventured into the WiMAX arena last September, launching a network in the city of Santa Cruz, and subsequently to the municipalities of Warnes and Montero. According to Roca, the operator plans to achieve national coverage by October.
