PCTL to extend its WDM network

18 Mar 2008

Chinese network equipment vendor ZTE Corporation reports that it has been selected by Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PCTL) to further extend the telco’s Wave Division Multiplex Network (WDMN) for an undisclosed sum. The agreement will involve the deployment of a WDMN ring in Quetta and a WDMN chain from Rawalpindi to Mensehra, and follows a previous agreement between the pair last year to deploy a backbone WDMN. On completion, the enlarged network will span up to 6,000km connecting most major cities and regions, with the aim of carrying up to 60% of the country’s data, voice and internet traffic.
