Celtel commits USD1 billion to improve service

11 Mar 2008

Celtel Nigeria has earmarked about USD1 billion this year for several projects to enhance capacity and improve service quality. The announcement was made by CEO Bayo Ligali as he inaugurated a USD6 million switch in Abuja at the weekend. Last week the cellco was fined almost NGN2 billion (USD17.36 million) by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for failing to meet its monthly performance targets in January. The regulator ordered Celtel and rival MTN to credit every subscriber with NGN175 of airtime.
