Internet gateway licensee joins new voice exchange operators

28 Feb 2008

The Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has issued a licence to Mango Teleservices for operating international internet gateway (IIG) services, the first of its type in the country’s private sector. Mango Teleservices, a unit of Dhaka-based Communication Solution Ltd (CSL), agreed to share 10% of its revenues with the regulator. As reported in CommsUpdate, the BTRC recently awarded licences for three international voice gateways – to Novotel, Mir Telecom and Bangla Trac Communications – and two intermediate interconnection exchanges (ICX) – to M&H Telecom and Getco Telecommunications, breaking the respective monopolies of state-run incumbent telco Bangladesh Telegraph and Telephone Board (BTTB).
