Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) announced yesterday that it had won a contract to expand the mobile network of Thailand’s largest cellco by subscribers, Advanced Info Services (AIS). The deal, of undisclosed value, includes expansion of AIS’ GSM-based radio access network as well as software and services. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database AIS’ GSM/GPRS network reached approximately 95% of the population by April last year, spanning over 11,500 base stations, and the company had said its basic rollout was complete. It also provides EDGE data services, and had planned to expand the platform to match the nationwide footprint of GSM/GPRS.
