ATH, Fiji Telecom express concern over competition

13 Feb 2008

Fiji’s Amalgamated Telecom Holdings (ATH), a state-backed holding company which controls incumbent mobile operator Vodafone Fiji, has expressed concerns over the imminent arrival of competition in the wireless market later this year, singling out Digicel in the process. ATH chief executive Tomasi Vakatora says Digicel has a record of being ‘very aggressive in places they have set up and I am sure they will apply the same type of competitive force over here’. Digicel is one of four firms invited by the government to bid for mobile licences, the others being Pacific Spectrum Holdings Limited, Telecom Pacific Limited and Unwired Fiji Limited.
