Worldmax picks Alcatel-Lucent for commercial WiMAX deployment in Europe

12 Feb 2008

Netherlands-based wireless access broadband provider Worldmax says it has selected Alcatel-Lucent to supply it with a WiMAX 802.16e-2005 (Rev-e) network using the operator’s 3.5GHz spectrum – claiming a commercial ‘first’ for western Europe. Worldmax holds an exclusive nationwide operator’s licence for 3.5GHz in the Netherlands, enabling it to offer high speed wireless mobile internet access using the technology. Commenting on the award, Worldmax CEO Jeanine van der Vist said: ‘We selected Alcatel-Lucent after a stringent search and are confident that Alcatel-Lucent is the right partner to deploy such an innovative network. We were looking for a flexible solution, which is easy to deploy and expand as our business grows. Alcatel-Lucent has proven to be the right partner for all our needs based on their track record worldwide.’ The equipment supplier will provide an end-to-end WiMAX solution, including base stations, wireless access controllers and core equipment. Alcatel-Lucent will also be responsible for project management and integration of the network.
