Jordan Telecom net profit rises 8.6%

Jordan Telecom Group has announced that its full year net profit rose 8.6% to JOD94.5 million (USD133 million) in 2007 on the back of strong demand for internet services. CEO Michael Ghossein said the group, in which France Telecom has a 51%, recorded revenues of JOD397.9 million, up 9.6% year-on-year. Internet revenue grew 32.7% to JOD13.8 million on the back of a doubling of its internet customer base to 92,000, giving it a 60% share of the market. The subscriber base of wireless arm Orange grew 21.7% in 2007 to 1.7 million, while wireless revenues rose 31% to JOD173.9 million.
