22 Jan 2008

BNamericas reports that the ISP arm of fixed line incumbent Grupo ICE, RACSA, has begun a project to install a dozen WiMAX base stations in the greater metropolitan area of capital San Jose. The USD3 million network will be capable of carrying 20,000 broadband connections. The first base station has already been installed, at a cost of USD90,000, providing service to around 500 residential and business clients in Escazu, Santa Ana, San Jose, Cartago and Heredia neighborhoods. The monthly rates for the service will vary between USD29 and USD244 for download speeds of up to 2Mbps.
