OPTA to launch inquiry into KPN discounts

21 Jan 2008

Dutch telecoms watchdog OPTA is launching an investigation into discounts offered by the country’s incumbent operator KPN, says Reuters quoting the regulator’s chairman Chris Fonteijn in local newspaper Het Financieele Dagblad. It is believed OPTA’s inquiry will centre on payments or discounts the former monopoly has offered to some of its major clients. ‘The question is whether this is an illegal way of offering discounts,’ said Fonteijn. The regulator will clarify the situation later this year, he added.
