AIS to offer iPhone

21 Jan 2008

Thailand’s largest cellco by subscribers, Advanced Info Services (AIS), is collaborating with its shareholder Singapore Telecom (SingTel) and Australia’s Optus to bring Apple’s iPhone to Thailand and the southeast Asia-Pacific region. AIS’s chief marketing officer Sanchai Thiewprasertkul said the GSM operator had held talks with Apple to win the rights to import iPhones, and was discussing handset volumes, marketing terms and business model partnerships with its regional peers. Mr Sanchai also said that up to 60,000 iPhones have been smuggled into Thailand so far.
