Huawei to deploy WiMAX network for TransTelecom

Huawei Technologies has announced that it has been selected by Bulgarian telco TransTelecom to deploy a commercial WiMAX network covering the central business districts of a number of major cities including the capital Sofia and Varna. According to the terms of the contract Huawei will supply an end-to-end WiMAX solution which will operate in the 3.5GHz frequency band. The Chinese vendor will also upgrade TransTelecom’s central exchange equipment. TransTelecom has been operating a 802.16-2004-based WiMAX network in Bulgaria since 2006 and holds a national WiMAX concession in the 3.5GHz band.
