Mobilink smashes 30 million barrier

3 Jan 2008

Pakistan’s largest mobile operator by subscribers, Mobilink, has announced that it has passed the 30 million subscriber mark. The cellco plans to spend at least USD500 million in 2008 to increase network coverage and maintain subscriber growth. According to a recent ‘quality of service’ survey conducted by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, PTA, Mobilink topped the averages to attain the ‘Best Quality Service’ accolade on the overall count with 97.08% success. Despite remaining the market leader, according to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database Mobilink’s market share fell from approximately 46% at the start of 2007 to approximately 41% by the end of the year as newcomers Telenor Pakistan and Warid Telecom grew their customer bases at an even faster rate.
