MVNOs increase market share in Q3

18 Dec 2007

There were 3.34 million people signed up to one of the Netherlands’ 40 or so MVNOs or mobile resellers by the end of September 2007, up from 2.69 million a year earlier, according to research published today by Dutch group Telecompaper. By the start of October MVNOs and resellers accounted for 17.7% of active SIMS in the Dutch market, Telecompaper said. In the last six months a number of new players – Esprit Telecom, Simple Mobiel, My Dads Phone Company and Miles2Call – have entered the market, although the overall number of operators has declined due to consolidation, such as the merger of Tele2 Mobiel and Versatel. With slightly less than a million customers, Debitel is by far the largest Dutch MVNO. Tele2 Mobiel (which now includes the former Versatel) is the second largest player, with an estimated 599,000 customers at the end of September 2007. Lebara is believed to rank third, closely followed by Ortel Mobile.
