Batelco to launch 3G on 16 December

13 Dec 2007

Bahrain’s national PTO Batelco will launch 3G and 3.5G mobile networks on 16 December, the island kingdom’s National Day, company officials announced yesterday. Batelco’s 3.5G HSDPA-driven portfolio will include mobile broadband internet access, domestic and international video calling, large file download/uploading, remote company network access and mobile portals including its own ‘O portal’. The former monopoly fixed line and GSM network operator says it has invested BHD7 million (USD18.6 million) in building nationwide W-CDMA/HSDPA infrastructure through a partnership with Ericsson. Rival Zain Bahrain has offered HSDPA services since May 2006.
