Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) is conducting a major management restructuring to help simplify the operation and running of its fixed line business and next generation network (NGN) rollout, reports local Filipino newspaper the Inquirer, quoting a PLDT spokesperson as saying. In an interview yesterday, Ramon Isberto said ‘We’re undertaking our NGN rollout. So this requires change in the business organisation. This reorganisation is intended to push forward the transformation of our fixed line business.’ The company is progressing plans to migrate to an all-IP network and says it is necessary to undertake ‘an organizational shift’ to help achieve this. In a filing to the Philippine Stock Exchange, PLDT said the reorganisation would see PLDT president and CEO Napoleon Nazareno ‘devoting more time and energy’ in managing the fixed line business. The realignment will take effect from 1 January 2008, at which date ‘all revenue generation and customer relationship initiatives will be consolidated under the customer sales and marketing group’ led by Ernesto Alberto, currently head of the PLDT corporate business group.
