Six on short-list for mobile licences

19 Nov 2007

Fiji’s Ministry of Commerce has reportedly short-listed six companies for licences to offer mobile services in the newly deregulated telecoms market. FijiLive reports that the pre-qualified firms will now go forward to a final assessment stage before a final decision is made. The six companies were part of an original 15 groups that expressed an interest in August this year. Fiji’s interim commerce minister, Taito Waradi, said that not all companies that meet the requirement would be granted licences because the country could only allow a few companies to operate given the capacity of its available bandwidth. He declined to disclose the names of the short-listed companies and would not reveal the number of licences that are likely to be issued.
