O2 Ireland revenues rise 6.8% in Q3

13 Nov 2007

Irish mobile operator O2 reported third-quarter service revenues of EUR243 million (USD355 million) for the period ended 30 September, up 6.8% year-on-year, while data revenues as a percentage of total revenues climbed to 26.4%, it said. The Telefonica-owned unit said monthly ARPU for contract customers helped bolster revenues, rising 1.7% y-o-y to EUR84.90, although pre-paid ARPU dipped marginally to EUR29.20 from EUR29.80 in 3Q06. O2 Ireland’s customers sent a total of around 393 million SMS texts in the three-month period, down one percentage point from 397 million in the corresponding year earlier period. At the end of September the cellco had a total of 1.632 million mobile users, up 1.8% on the previous quarter, thanks in part to the net addition of 20,900 new post-paid lines. Siliconrepublic.com quotes O2 Ireland’s chief financial officer Paul Whelan as saying, ‘Data revenue continues to show strong growth, which is reflective of the uptake of data services by our customers, including O2 Broadband which we launched in July’.
