PAN awarded nationwide WiMAX spectrum

8 Oct 2007

The National Communications Regulation Commission has issued a ten-year WiMAX wireless broadband network operating licence to PAN Telecom (PAN Wireless) for the use of frequencies in the 5.73GHz-5.76GHz band in 27 regions of Ukraine. The spectrum can be used from April 2008 onwards, and services in each region must be launched by August 2012. TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database says that PAN Wireless has deployed a 5.8GHz 802.16-2004 standard wireless broadband network covering Kiev and targeting public sector organisations; it awarded a rollout contract to Aperto in February 2006. PAN Wireless is a joint venture between UK-based Networks By Wireless and Ukrainian satellite and telecoms equipment provider PAN Telecom.
