ZTE to jazz up AR’s backbone

Portuguese alternative telco AR Telecom (formerly Jazztel Portugal) has contracted Chinese vendor ZTE to upgrade its backbone network covering Lisbon, Porto and other major cities. The deal includes the provision of a DWDM platform and MSTP equipment used for hybrid networking. AR Telecom was thought to have signed up more than 30,000 triple-play subscribers to its fixed wireless ‘TMAX’ access network by the end of 2006.
