Alternet and TekVoice merger to be completed next month

23 Jul 2007

A merger between Canadian network provider Alternet and US VoIP operator TekVoice is expected to be completed by 15 August, according to a statement by Alternet. In March, both companies signed a letter of intent to merge their operations. The new company will be called Alternet Systems and focus on acquiring and developing wireless broadband networks in underserved Latin American and Caribbean markets, where it plans to offer voice, data and value added services. According to the statement, TekVoice has identified an opportunity to build a national wireless broadband telecoms network in an unnamed country in Central America. Alternet Broadband provides high speed internet services using Wi-Fi and WiMAX technology, while Alternet Telecom provides fixed, mobile, local and long distance telephony services for the business, government and residential segments over wireless networks.
