eircom braces itself for strike action

13 Jul 2007

Unions representing eircom workers are expected to call for a strike today, amid an ongoing dispute over the company’s refusal to grant an outstanding 2% pay rise. The increase is due under the social partnership process but the Irish operator’s Australian parents, Babcock & Brown, are trying to get the unions to agree to changes in work practices before they will award the raise. Not surprisingly, the unions have baulked at the suggestion saying the pay rise is supposed to be made without any preconditions.
