neuf’s Jacques Veyrat says market consolidation inevitable

9 Jul 2007

neuf Cegetel chairman Jacques Veyrat says it is inevitable that a further shakedown will take place in the French telecoms market and envisages possible mergers involving Noos, Iliad (Free) or even his own company. AFX News, citing an interview in La Tribune, notes Veyrat’s opinion that further market consolidation is inevitable in the industry if companies are to compete effectively with the incumbent Freance Télécom, which is currently spending heavily on an extensive fibre-optic network deployment.

Veyrat’s comments come in the wake of the operator’s recent acquisition of Deutsche Telekom’s T-Online France (Club Internet) unit, which has consolidated neuf’s position as the second largest internet provider in France.
