GrameenPhone builds bridges

4 Jul 2007

Bangladesh’s largest cellco by subscribers, Grameenphone, has lit a fibre-optic cable linking the east and west of the country across the 4.8km Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge, between Elenga in Tangail and Nolka in Sirajganj, becoming the first mobile operator in the country to do so. The company said the new backbone section will make its network more robust and help it to improve GSM network quality and coverage for users in Rajshahi, Khulna and Barisal divisions.
