20 Jun 2007

QTEL Global Networks Ltd, a wireless broadband network operator, has announced the launch of a showcase network in the capital city, Lima. Based on WiMAX technology, the network is designed to deliver secure VPN, internet and VoIP services to commercial, government and residential customers. The network will initially be available to a 10km squared area of Lima, a city with a population of 7.8 million. The showcase is the first step towards rolling out a national wireless network. Over 50 businesses will be taking part in the initial launch.

Earlier this year QTEL Peru signed an agreement with Megacom Corp, the parent company of Compañía Telefónica Andina (Teleandina) to design and deploy a countrywide WiMAX network.
