MVNO decision expected later this year

12 Jun 2007

Earlier this month Jordan’s Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (TRC) issued a draft regulatory decision paper on the provision of mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) services. It has set 24 June as the submission deadline for comments.

Jordan is reportedly the first Middle Eastern country to establish rules on the introduction of MVNOs. Initial provisions established by the regulator include that mobile network operators and MVNOs be free to negotiate the model that best fulfil their interests and business strategies. Consequently, more than one type of MVNO could be established in Jordan. MVNOs will be required to apply for an ‘Individual Licence’ in accordance with the current licensing and regulatory regime. Licensees who provide MVNO services will be eligible to interconnect and negotiate their interconnection arrangements with other licensees.
