TopNet: waiting for licence from RATEL

8 Jun 2007

TopNet (aka Novi Operater), the local arm of Austria’s Mobilkom which was awarded the country’s third 3G concession last November, has announced that it is still waiting for a licence from the Serbian Telecommunications Agency (RATEL) which will allow it to begin commercial operations. Jovan Radunovic, director of RATEL, could not specify when the licence would be issued, but pointed out that everything would be done as soon as possible and added that the regulator had approved the company’s change of name to TopNet.

TopNet has reportedly invested EUR250 million in the development and construction of its network and, according to the terms of its licence, will provide coverage of 20% of the population and two major highways at launch. The company has signed a national roaming agreement with one of the country’s other cellcos, either Telenor or Telekom Srbija.
