Primus and Mipps launch Hamilton mobile WiMAX trials

31 May 2007

Primus Telecommunications Canada and wireless services provider Mipps have launched trials of a WiMAX IEEE 802.16e-2005 3.5GHz network in Hamilton, Ontario, using equipment from Alcatel-Lucent. The trial is free for participating residents and small businesses, and is expected to continue into the mid-summer, providing fixed/mobile high speed internet access almost anywhere within the city, according to a press release. Mipps owns 3.5GHz spectrum in 40 licensing areas across Canada, covering most major cities, whilst Primus offers facilities-based voice, data, e-commerce, web hosting, VoIP and broadband internet services using ADSL2+ technology. Primus Canada is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Virginia-based Primus Telecommunications Group.
