Digicel posts impressive first quarter subscriber growth

24 May 2007

Digicel Group has revealed that its Jamaican subscriber base grew by 100,000 users since December 2006, bringing the total customer base to 1.7 million. That increase is put into the shade however by the 40% hike in users from its wireless subsidiary in Haiti, which added 400,000 subscribers in the quarter ending 31 March and building on the one million customers Digicel had attracted by the end of 2006, since its launch in May. Overall, Digicel Group announced a 144% increase in its subscriber base, saying it now has 4.7 million customers across its 22 markets that span the Caribbean, Central and South America and Samoa. Jamaica and Haiti together account for 66% of Digicel’s worldwide subscriber base.
