DT linked with move for Orange Netherlands

23 May 2007

German incumbent Deutsche Telekom (DT) has been linked with a possible EUR1.6 billion (USD2.2 billion) move for France Télécom’s Dutch mobile unit Orange Netherlands, according to Reuters quoting sources familiar with the matter. ‘The deal is not quite done yet, but very nearly there,’ one source is reported to have said. If consummated, the takeover would result in the merger of the country’s third and fourth placed mobile operators, reducing competition in one of Europe’s most hotly contested markets. DT declined to comment.
