Digicel’s subscribers up 144%, Haitian users reach 1.4 million

Caribbean mobile group Digicel has announced that its total subscriber base reached 4.7 million at the end of its fiscal fourth quarter at 31 March 2007, representing a 144% year-on-year increase. Its subsidiary in Haiti, which celebrated a year of operations earlier this month, accounted for 1.4 million customers. Digicel operates in 22 markets, and in April 2007 it entered the Central American market with the launch of mobile services in El Salvador. Later this year, Digicel plans to further expand its presence with a pending launch in Suriname.
