OPTA lowers ceiling for fixed to mobile calls

15 May 2007

The Dutch telecoms regulator OPTA is recommending a reduction in fixed to mobile termination fees, writes Telecompaper, and to that end has sent a draft decision to the European Commission. Under the watchdog’s proposals, the tariff reductions will come into force in a phased process, starting this summer. The tariff currently stands at an average EUR0.12 per minute, but will drop to EUR0.07 from 1 July 2009. This figure will eventually be dropped to EUR0.05per minute, which OPTA believes will save consumers more than EUR190 million over three years.
