DoCoMo to shut down PHS services next year

30 Apr 2007

NTT DoCoMo says it plans to shut down its Personal Handyphone System (PHS) mobile phone service on 7 January 2008. The cellco previously announced that PHS services would be discontinued between October-December 2007. PHS customers have been informed about DoCoMo’s plans to terminate the service and encouraged to migrate to alternatives, such as DoCoMo’s FOMA 3G network. It is also reported to be considering a plan to transfer PHS users to WILLCOM Inc, another PHS service provider in Japan.
