Afritel hints at Ghana launch

26 Apr 2007

According to reports in the Ghanaian Chronicle, Afritel Ghana Limited, a business vehicle for Mr Richmond Nana Aggrey (a former CEO at Nigeria-based telecoms service provider MTS First Wireless), is confident it will get the go ahead to enter the local telecoms market ‘soon’. Nana Aggrey says Afritel Ghana Limited has an outstanding application with the Ministry of Communications and the National Communications Authority (NCA), and he is optimistic this will allow his company to enter the sector in the short term. He claims to have a demonstration network up and running, but says that a commercial launch is uncertain until a number of regulatory and licensing issues are resolved.
