Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), which was issued with an IPTV licence last week, has announced that the broadband-based service would be available on a commercial basis in the country’s capital by the end of this year. Head of SLT’s IT Division, Deepa Liyanagama, said the service would offer broadcast quality video-on-demand and new integrated TV services over broadband networks. She said a decoding box costing around USD100 would be made available, and the system would be delivered over PSTN lines. ‘This service would be initially offered to Colombo subscribers who are already using copper lines for voice and data,’ she said.
