CAT and Hutch bring in appraisers

18 Apr 2007

CAT Telecom and Hong Kong’s Hutchison Telecom International have jointly awarded a contract to a consortium to appraise the value of the pair’s joint venture Hutchison CAT Wireless Multimedia’s network in 25 provinces of Thailand, as part of efforts to integrate its operations with CAT’s own network in the country’s other 51 regions. State-owned CAT’s president Phisal Jorpochaudom said last week that the consortium was made up of Malaysia’s CIMB and Bua Luang Securities, and also said a contract had been awarded to adviser FBLP to study all legal aspects of a plan to merge the two CDMA2000 1x networks. He added that the network appraisal and the legal study are scheduled to be finished by July. CAT’s chief financial officer Jirayuth Rungsrithong said CAT wants to take ownership of the entire nationwide network, in a similar manner to the country’s build-transfer-operate (BTO) GSM networks.
